Video - How to Tie your own Steel Wire Fishing Leader
Today we’d like to show you a great little tip which I use all the time: how to tie your own steel wire fishing leaders. There are many times when I’ve been fishing, and I’ve decided that a steel wire leader would be perfect. And with method you’ll be able to quickly tie your own.
If the video doesn’t load, you can view it here: How to Tie your own Steel Wire Fishing Leader
Steel wire leaders are especially useful when fishing for bluefish, pike, muskies, and all forms of toothy fish.
As always, good fishin’

Great video once again! Sure do miss your show on the Sportsman Channel. Anyway, what brand of wire and where is it sold that you use. I have tried sevel types but they do not seem to wrap well. I fish for Walleyes often and have been bitten off quite a bit from Pike and Muskie and wire leaders seem to affect the Walleye bite ecspecially in shallow and clearer water.
Thank You

Hello Jay,
The brand of wire line is called “oldtimer”, made by Oldtimer Manufacturing in King City, Ontario, Canada. I picked it up at a sportsman show some time ago & not sure if this is still available?
However, if you go on line to bass pro shops and do a search for “wire leader” you will see a couple of good options come up.
I know what you mean about getting cut off from Pike and Muskie while fishing for walleye, and the steel wire leader will definitely help…that’s one of the main reasons the Viper Spoons come with single strand titanium wire line (to protect against tooth fish).
Glad you enjoyed our TV show on the Sportsman Channel. We are targeting to go on again in April/May & June (should things work out well).
Thanks for writing in & good fishing!
