Rather than showing you the traditional method of how to clean a grouper, I’d like to show you an alternative method which you can use for any bass-like fish.

I’m stuck using a smaller knife than I’d like to use for this fish filleting demonstration, though that’s okay. There might be a time and place when you find yourself like me, stuck with a smaller knife.

Before you even start cutting, you’ll want to get the best part of the fish, the cheeks. The cheeks are the fillet-minon of fish and something you definitely don’t want to pass up on.

This video will take you step by step and show you how to fillet a fish, or in this example, a nice-sized grouper!

As a special tip, you’ll want to make sure to clean the fillet of any blood right away. Blood or dark skinned fat left on the fish will leave a stronger or ‘fishier’ taste. Luckily a quick wash will wash away the blood and help your fillet taste much better.

Until next time, good luck and good fishin’!
