There are some simple facts you should know which will help you select the right spinner bait for the right situation.

All Spinner baits come with some sort of blade and it’s important that your spinner bait has the right blade for the right situation. Here are some tips to consider when buying and using spinner baits, focusing on blades.

Willow leaf blades

Willow leaf blades, could be categorized as basically a long and thin blade. Its main intention is to give off plenty of flash. As such, the best time to use a spinner bait with willow leaf style blades, is when you are fishing clear water conditions and fish are using sight as a primary method to feed.

Advantages

Another advantage of using willow leaf style spinner baits is that they come through the water with very little resistance. So if you are targeting aggressive fish, you will then be able to quickly retrieve the spinner bait which will in turn also allow you to cover more water. This quick retrieve of the spinner bait is referred to a “burning” your spinner bait.

Also, because of the slender profile of a willow leaf blade, another advantage is that it will flow through weeds a bit better, allowing you more time to fish.

Match the hatch

Another point to keep in mind is that willow leaf style spinner bait is trying to resemble a long, thin bait fish. Thus, consider the bait fish that are located in your body of water as well as what the fish are feeding on, when considering spinner blade styles.

The willow leaf style blade will also fall through the water quicker, allowing you to get to deeper water, faster

Summary

In summary, be sure to use a spinner bait with a willow leaf style blade, when fishing in clear water conditions. Spinner baits are a lure which can be easily used by anglers of all ages, as they are a simple “cast and retrieve” style lure, and are very effective in catching fish.

Plenty more to talk about, so until next time, good luck on the water and
Good fishin’
