An Amazing Braided Fishing Line Story
Hello everyone. Recently, I took a good friend of mine (Dirk) salt water fishing for a week, keying in on Sea Bass. I used many different lures on this trip & caught plenty of fish; however, I was having trouble catching fish on a buck-tail jig. Dirk on the other hand, was using the same buck-tail jig as I, and was literally catching fish with every cast. This was hard to understand since I was the seasoned veteran, and Dirk on the other hand was still learning.
The only difference between his set up & mine, was that I was using monofilament line with a fluorocarbon leader – while Dirk was using a braided line (Power Pro brand) with a fluorocarbon leader. The next day, I changed over to the same braided line & fluorocarbon set up & guess what – I was on fire! Now, we were both filling the boat up with fish and it was great fishing.
Braided line is so sensitive that any vibration or even the slightest tick on your line will be detected. This is because braided line does not stretch: however, monofilament fishing line stretches and absorbs the bites instead of letting you feel the bite.
I have been using braided line ever since. I high recommend braided line with a fluorocarbon leader as a primary set up for jigging in either fresh water, or salt water.
Braided line is not perfect for every style of fishing: I’ll explain when not to use braided line next time, talk to you then.
